Infaaq was initially started as a relief and rehabilitation program to serve the victims of earthquake that hit the Northern areas of Pakistan on October 8, 2005. In addition to provision of food and shelter to the quake victims, the program also initiated long-term sustainable interventions and started Infaaq Education Support and Micro-Financing Program to enable the earthquake victims to RISE AND SMILE AGAIN . Infaaq program was initiated with the financial assistance of philanthropists from Pakistan and abroad; part of the funds was also generated through small-scale local investments; the program provides financial and technical support for education and small income-generating activities. Presently working as a joint program of Institute of Research and Development Studies (IRDS) and Sarhad Development Society (SDS), the program will be formally registered in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as an independent non-profit and non-governmental organization. |

| IRDS and SDS |
Institute of Research and Development Studies (IRDS) is a capacity building NGO (registered under the Societies Act 1860) working in NWFP-Pakistan since 2000. IRDS is mandated to strengthen the efforts for sustainable community development through provision of services in training, research, micro-financing, enterprise development, education and local government strengthening. Sarhad Development Society (SDS) is registered under Social Welfare Act 1961; it is operating in NWFP-Pakistan for the last two decades. SDS has been able to serve thousands of Afghan refugees (orphans and women) through its education and health support programs. To provide free education facilities to orphans are poor children, SDS has established two high schools and a college in NWFP. |
